Our Practice
Modern Eyes Optometry was established by Dr. Joel Schaefer and Dr. Bruce Foley in 2016 with the goal to offer state-of-the-art technology, modern medicine and personalized care to Georgetown and its surrounding communities. Dr. Christine O joined the practice in 2018 and established the Myopia Control Program for our pediatric patients. MEO continued to expand to facilitate the growth of the Dry Eye Clinic in 2019. MEO bid farewell to Dr. Schaefer and his family in the summer of 2025 as they embarked on a new chapter outside of Ontario. MEO has seen lots of evolution over the years but there is one constant that remains strong: the staff and optometrists at MEO will always strive to continue delivering exceptional eye care to its patients.

At Modern Eyes Optometry your experience matters to us. We are committed to consistently providing outstanding care and use state-of-the-art technology as our standard. This enables our optometrists to detect signs of disease or abnormalities earlier and provide tailored treatment plans to better manage these issues. At Modern Eyes Optometry we provide comprehensive eye exams, dry eye consultations, myopia control consultations, advanced treatment plans and personalized eyewear solutions for all ages so you can see and look your best.
Treat your eyes to Modern Eyes Optometry and experience the difference.

Dr. Joel Schaefer
After serving the eye care needs of the community since graduating from the University of Waterloo in 2008, Dr. Joel Schaefer is retiring from practice in Ontario effective June 30, 2025.
A note from Dr. Schaefer:
For nearly 20 years it has been my joy and honour to serve the eye care needs of families from Georgetown and surrounding communities. I am forever grateful you chose me (MEO) as your eye care provider. I am especially thankful to those who sought me out after starting Modern Eyes Optometry; loyal patients like you helped grow MEO into the establishment it is today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Moving on to the next chapter of my life is bittersweet; however, I have complete faith that Dr. Christine O will continue to serve the community with the same ethos. She has been a dedicated and exceptional optometrist with Modern Eyes Optometry since graduating from the University of Waterloo in 2018. (My wife often jokes Dr. O is the female version of me.)
A small business is not successful without a great team. I have had the privilege of working alongside a wonderful group of people who care deeply for the well-being of our patients, and I am at peace knowing the optometrists and staff at MEO will continue to offer exceptional service and expertise for your future eye care and eyewear needs. In the words of one of our dear patients: “Long Live Modern Eyes Optometry.”

Thank you for entrusting us with your vision. We look forward to seeing you soon!
